Dots, not robots
OpenAI's first Super Bowl spot told the history of technology in black-and-white pointillism, and never showed a chatbot doing anything clever.

The ad, broadcast in February 2025, builds fire, the wheel, electricity and the moon landing out of fields of dots before arriving at ChatGPT as the next step in the sequence.
It is a smart dodge. Someone typing into a text box is the least cinematic thing on earth, so the ad sells lineage instead of features. You are not buying software, you are joining history.
The dots do double duty: they read as analogue craft and as data at the same time. Few AI ads have found a visual idea that simple.
